Meet The Team

Small but mighty.

Our Story

In 2025, Skip Hobbie Productions re-branded as Bat City Films, a full service production company, to focus on developing more of our own passion projects and start working with a broader range of clients in the educational and conservation spaces doing important work we care about. With over two decades working on documentaries of the highest caliber, Bat City Films has a large roster of world class and award winning Producers, Cinematographers, and Editors we work with to tackle start to finish.

Skip Hobbie is an Emmy Award winning wildlife cinematographer based in Austin, Texas.
He grew up in Texas flipping rocks and climbing trees, ever in pursuit of creepy crawlies and little critters. After receiving his BS in Radio/TV/Film from the University of Texas, he turned his passion for wildlife into a career that has taken him all over the world for National Geographic, The BBC, PBS, Netflix, Love Nature, as well an as independent features.

Skip’s passion for wildlife and conservation are only equaled by his passion for technology. His quick grasp of how to use the latest and greatest camera tech in aid of storytelling, quickly advanced his career as a young cinematographer and field producer, and in 2012, Skip earned an Emmy award as part of the camera team for National Geographic’s series Untamed Americas.

As Skip’s career blossomed working on projects beyond his wildest childhood dreams, he grew more and more to appreciate the subjects and places that were often overlooked by TV. His home state of Texas was rich with wildlife, so why had he never seen a Texas wildlife documentary? To see his own ideas come to life, Skip started getting involved more as a Producer, developing and pitching the films about the places and subjects he cared about including a 2021 PBS: Nature film about Big Bend National Park, Fin & Fur Films’ 2022 indie masterpiece about Texas, Deep in the Heart, narrated by Matthew McConaughey. With a few different projects about bats currently in production, it was finally time for Skip to step into the director seat and start expanding his company.

Ellie Adams is a jack of all trade creative, eager to work and learn in all facets of documentaries. Ellie graduated with a Radio/TV/Film degree from the University of Texas in 2025.
